Commercial Plumbing
Do you work as a plumbing subcontractor for general contractors?
Yes. We regularly work as the plumbing sub on commercial build-outs and remodels, and we can bid from your drawings. Call (309) 699-0700 or send your plans through our Get A Quote page.
Are you licensed for commercial plumbing in Illinois?
Yes. Dick Rich Plumbing is a licensed Illinois plumbing contractor, License No. 055-004840, and has been in business in Washington, IL since 1970.
What areas do you cover for commercial plumbing?
We stay close to home: Washington, East Peoria, Peoria, Peoria Heights, Morton, Pekin, Eureka, Metamora, Germantown Hills and the smaller towns within about 25 miles of our Washington shop.
Can you work around our business hours?
Wherever the job allows, yes. We plan water shut-offs and noisy work around your hours and keep the rest of the building running while we work.
Do you plumb restaurants and commercial kitchens?
Yes — commercial kitchens are a core part of our commercial work, including hand sinks, prep and three-compartment sinks, floor drains, dishwasher connections and commercial water heaters.
New Construction Plumbing
When should I call a plumber on a new build?
Before you break ground — ideally while the plans are still being finalized. We can catch layout problems on paper, give you an accurate bid, and get you on our schedule for underground before the slab is poured.
Can you bid from my house plans?
Yes. Send us your plans through the Get A Quote page or call (309) 699-0700, and we will review them and give you a written bid.
Do you plumb new homes for owner-builders?
Yes. We work with homeowners acting as their own general contractor as well as professional builders, and we will help you sequence the plumbing with the other trades.
Do you handle the plumbing inspections?
Yes. We schedule and are present for the underground, rough-in and final plumbing inspections required by your municipality or county.
Should I put a tankless water heater in my new home?
It depends on how many bathrooms you have, your fixtures and how your family uses hot water. A new build is the easiest time to go tankless because the gas line, venting and water lines can be planned in from the start. We will walk you through the trade-offs.
How far from Washington do you work on new construction?
About 25 miles. That covers Washington, Morton, Metamora, Germantown Hills, Eureka, East Peoria, Peoria, Pekin, Tremont, Mackinaw and the towns in between.

Should I repair or replace my old plumbing?
It depends on the age and material of the pipe and how often it is failing. We will show you what we find and give you an honest recommendation — sometimes a repair is all you need.
Water Heater Installation & Repair
How long does a water heater last?
A typical tank water heater lasts around 8 to 12 years depending on water quality and maintenance. Tankless units often last longer with regular flushing.
Do you install tankless water heaters?
Yes. We install tankless water heaters in new homes, remodels and as replacements where the gas supply and venting allow it.
Do you install commercial water heaters?
Yes. We install and replace water heaters for restaurants, offices, churches, shops and other commercial buildings, sized to the building’s actual hot-water demand.
Will you haul away my old water heater?
Yes. Removal of the old unit is part of a replacement.
Sewer, Drain & Pipe Repair
What are the signs of a sewer line problem?
Several drains backing up at once, gurgling toilets, sewage odors, water coming up through a basement floor drain, or unusually green patches in the yard over the sewer line.
Should I replace galvanized pipes?
Galvanized steel water lines corrode from the inside and eventually restrict flow or leak. If your home still has them and you are seeing low pressure or discolored water, replacement is usually the right call.
Do you repair commercial sewer and drain lines?
Yes. We repair and replace sewer, drain and supply lines in commercial buildings as well as homes.
Can you put a camera down the line to see what is wrong?
Yes. When a drain or sewer problem is not obvious, we scope the line with a camera as part of diagnosing it, so we know what we are dealing with before any digging or demolition. We do this as part of our repair work rather than as a stand-alone inspection service.
Sump Pump Installation & Replacement
How long does a sump pump last?
Most sump pumps last around 7 to 10 years, depending on how often they run. If yours is in that range, it is worth replacing it before it fails.
Do I need a battery backup sump pump?
If your basement is finished or stores anything you would not want wet, a battery backup is strongly recommended. It keeps pumping when the main pump fails or the power goes out.
Do you install sewage ejector pumps?
Yes. Basement bathrooms below the level of the sewer need an ejector pump, and we install and replace them.
Toilets, Tubs, Showers & Fixtures
Do you install fixtures I bought myself?
In most cases, yes. Let us know the make and model when you call so we can confirm it will work with your existing plumbing.
Do you install garbage disposals?
Yes. We install new garbage disposals and replace worn-out ones, including the electrical plug-in connection where one already exists.
What fixture brands do you install?
We install quality brands including Kohler and Delta, and we can help you choose fixtures that fit your space and budget.
Bathroom & Kitchen Remodel Plumbing
Can you move my toilet or shower to a different spot?
Usually, yes. The key question is how the drain and vent will be routed. We will look at the space and tell you what is involved before you commit.
Do you work with remodeling contractors?
Yes. We work both directly for homeowners and as the plumbing contractor for remodelers and general contractors.
Should I replace old pipes during a remodel?
If the walls or floors are open and the pipe is old galvanized or cast iron, it is usually the most cost-effective time to replace it.
