New Construction Plumbing for Builders in Central Illinois
Call us before you start your next project. From the plan review to the final inspection, we plumb custom homes, spec homes, additions and light commercial buildings — and we show up when the schedule says.
Building? Let’s talk. New construction is the work we enjoy most, and it is where an experienced plumber saves a builder the most time and money. Dick Rich Plumbing has plumbed new homes and buildings around Washington since 1970, and we still start every project the same way: with a conversation before the first stake goes in the ground.
Call us before you start your next project. We will help you design the right plumbing plan for your home or business — fixture locations, water heater type and size, drain routing, and the small decisions that are cheap on paper and expensive once the concrete is poured.

Getting the Plumbing Plan Right Before You Build
The most expensive plumbing mistakes on a new build are the ones that get buried: a floor drain in the wrong place, a shower that ends up centered on a floor joist, a basement bathroom with no rough-in, a water heater that cannot keep up with the tub the owner picked. We look for those on the plans, not after the slab is poured.
We also help owners choose between tank and tankless water heaters, PEX manifold and trunk-and-branch supply, and where to put hose bibs, gas-appliance connections and future rough-ins — so the house works the way the family actually lives.
A Plumber Who Shows Up When the Schedule Says
Every builder has been held up waiting on a trade. Because we are local and we keep our service area tight — about 25 miles around Washington — we can be on site when the framing is done, back the next day for an inspector’s question, and ready to trim when the countertops are in.

Our New Construction Process
Plan Review & Bid
Send us the plans. We review fixture layouts and flag anything that will cause problems, then give you a clear written bid.
Underground
Below-slab drain, waste and vent lines, set and tested before concrete, along with the water service and sewer connection.
Rough-In & Top-Out
Supply, drain and vent lines run through the framing, pressure tested and ready for the rough plumbing inspection.
Trim & Final
Fixtures, faucets, water heater and appliances set and connected, the final inspection passed, and the system walked through with the owner.

New Construction Plumbing FAQs
When should I call a plumber on a new build?
Before you break ground — ideally while the plans are still being finalized. We can catch layout problems on paper, give you an accurate bid, and get you on our schedule for underground before the slab is poured.
Can you bid from my house plans?
Yes. Send us your plans through the Get A Quote page or call (309) 699-0700, and we will review them and give you a written bid.
Do you plumb new homes for owner-builders?
Yes. We work with homeowners acting as their own general contractor as well as professional builders, and we will help you sequence the plumbing with the other trades.
Do you handle the plumbing inspections?
Yes. We schedule and are present for the underground, rough-in and final plumbing inspections required by your municipality or county.
Should I put a tankless water heater in my new home?
It depends on how many bathrooms you have, your fixtures and how your family uses hot water. A new build is the easiest time to go tankless because the gas line, venting and water lines can be planned in from the start. We will walk you through the trade-offs.
How far from Washington do you work on new construction?
About 25 miles. That covers Washington, Morton, Metamora, Germantown Hills, Eureka, East Peoria, Peoria, Pekin, Tremont, Mackinaw and the towns in between.
